Embracing Aging with Vitality: Celebrating the Little (BIG) Things!

Embracing Aging with Vitality: Celebrating the Little (BIG) Things!

January 28, 20253 min read

So, today marks another exciting milestone in my life—a wedding anniversary! Yes, another year of wedded bliss, and yet, I can’t help but chuckle at how much this day serves as a reminder that aging is real, people. It’s not just the love I celebrate today, but the fact that we’re one step closer to the coveted "senior discount" at all our favorite restaurants. I mean, who doesn’t dream of getting those discounts and maybe even some extra bread at the table?

But seriously, as I reflect on another year of marriage, I also realize how much older I’m getting, and it's not just the graying hair or the increasing need for reading glasses. (What happened to my 20/20 vision, by the way?) Aging, much like marriage, is a series of adjustments. At some point, you stop obsessing over whether you can still do a split and start celebrating being able to get out of bed without groaning. And honestly, that’s a win.

I’ve decided to embrace aging with all the grace and vitality I can muster—because why not? We’re not getting any younger, but we sure can age with a little sass and a lot of enthusiasm. I celebrate the little victories now, like finding a wrinkle-free spot on my face (it’s there, I promise), or managing to finally remember where I put my keys without a 20-minute search. Sure, I may need a little extra time to warm up before tackling a cardio workout or stretch a little longer after a walk, but I’ve got energy, I’ve got experience, and above all—I’ve got a strong appreciation for life’s little moments.

Here’s the thing: I can still lift an enormous amount of weights—more than I ever thought possible, to be honest. And my flexibility? Well, let’s just say it’s better than it was 20, 30 years ago. You know those stretches I used to wish I could do? Well, now I can actually pull them off without sounding like a creaky door. And let’s be real, I have absolutely no intention of slowing down. In fact, my 50’s are the decade I’ve decided to fully embrace the "no slowing down" mantra. I’m not here for the whole “getting old” thing—I’m more about “getting bolder.” So, if you catch me axing wood or training for a long distance running race (yes, you heard that right), just know that I’m doing it with the energy and sass of someone 30 years younger. I’m not going out quietly—I’m going out strong… with a side of flexing and maybe a celebratory cake, because hey, we’ve got to live a little, right?

Did someone mention retirement? While some people are busy daydreaming about their next tropical retirement getaway, I’m over here still buried in courses, webinars, and certification programs like it’s my full-time job. Seriously, every year I’m signing up for something new, updating my skills, and making sure I’m at the top of my game—because who needs retirement when you’ve got fresh knowledge and a whole new set of skills to crush? I’m not here for the "retire and relax" life—I’ll take the "learn and grow" lifestyle any day. And hey, if that means I’m the only one still excited about work while others are eyeing their golf clubs, so be it!

So, here’s to another wedding anniversary and to aging with vitality! The days of fretting over each gray hair are long gone (okay, not really but I’m working on it). Instead, I’m choosing to celebrate how I’m not just getting older, I’m getting bolder. And if I can do that while sharing a slice of cake on my anniversary—well, that’s just an extra bonus. Cheers to love, life, and all the little (BIG) things we sometimes overlook—because these are the things that make aging so incredibly wonderful. When I find out what that it is, I will let you know.

Join me this year and beyond as I share my personal journey of embracing the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges that come with aging. Together, we’ll explore the complexities of growing older and discover the beauty in every step of the process.
